Willem 2-3
Trevor 3-0
Shaun 3-1
Vevek 3-1
Overall result, 14-5
Shaun up first and, after appearing in command first game and winning comfortably 9-3, lost the second game 9-6. He finished well to take the next two games winning the match.
I was up next against the ever confident Mireck and after a well run game and after some “interesting” calls (my opponent dropping his racquet in amazement twice), I won the match with some well timed boasts.
Vevek up next and after losing the first game appearing a bit asleep, he came back well against Dean and won the next three comfortably conceding five points the last three games.
And now to the COTY nomination (unanimous consensus), Willem against Gordon. With Willem running his heart out he appeared dead and buried in the first two games losing to five each game. The third, Willem 0-8 down and he got a second wind and won the next nine points to win 9-8. To the fourth, Willem on form and took it 9-0. Willem served and lost serve and seemed to have run out of steam (his opponent feeling more tired) and despite good support could not manage to win the match and lost the last game 9-1. So despite a valiant effort in winning 17 points in a row from 0-8 and youth on his side, went down. We all felt that this was very deserving of a COTY nomination.
None of their players stayed for dinner so we ended up at Nunos for a well deserved pizza. A very good win for us and we finish the first half very well.
Thanks
Trevor
