The first game of our league season kicked off on Wed 10 March with the Chambers local derby- 8th A vs. 8th B
We have a few new faces this year following the shuffling around of a few players, but the usual (old) faces (farts) are still trying their best to make an impact.
The first game started early with the two captains George Bowen and Pete Fillmore playing each other at No.1. George seized the opportunity to play at No.1 and very quickly realised that he was going to have an early shower. Peter won 3-0.
Next on was our newcomer Chris van Zyl against Lyal White. The match started evenly but Lyal then started to hit his straps and got the better of Chris. First league game for Chris- can only get better.
The ol’ timers Gavin Martin and Steph took the court and played some good squash. Two evenly matched opponents, both executing the “midnight special” shot to good effect. Gavin took the first but Steph came back strongly and took the match 3-1.
The final pairing saw Peter le Roux taking on Paul Fallon. A good match up but Paul played some sublime squash to keep le Roux at bay. And despite a spirited fight back in the third game to go up game point, a service in the nick swung the game back to Paul, who clinched the match 3-0.
Overall 4-12 down.
Well done to our colleagues, winners on the night, but we look forward to the rematch later in the year. Remember we are slow starters, it takes a while to warm up the old joints. We will be back………….
We enjoyed a few beers and a couple of pizzas in Greenside, to round off the evening.
Match result : 4 - 12
