7th A League vs. Edenvale

I must deviate from my usual structured report and tell it like it went down – very briefly.

The only consolation I can think of are from the words of Alfred Lord Tennyson” 'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.” As for our love-making ability certain truths need to be confessed – Karel and myself could not even rise to the occasion let alone some decent foreplay, we got a little hot and sweaty but all we achieved was to soil our perfectly clean squash kit. Paul tried to lead the way and showed us how to hold firm and he got to first base which earned him some bragging rights and entitled him to one post-match drink. Finally our Greek papa tried to teach us young ones how it’s done and he got to second base then he too lost his way…anticlimactic in the extreme. None of us had what it takes to challenge the log frontrunners. They train on Thursday, play each other on Saturday and seek fresh blood on Tuesday. They won with style and grace and were humble in their victory. We slumped to our worst defeat and it certainly doesn’t feel good.
Surprise, surprise – Doppio was virtually empty – maybe they heard the losers were coming – maybe the soccer was more appealing – maybe they were filling their tanks with petrol.

No: 1 - Paul against Johan (1-3) 11-15, 8-15, 15-4, 3-15

No: 2 - Nick against Pam (2-3) 15-13, 5-15, 12-15, 16-14, 5-15

No: 3 - Gary against Nicholas (0-3) 12-15, 5-15, 7-15

No: 4 - Karel against Herman (0-3) 14-16, 3-15, 5-15

I heard that, in an effort to disassociate themselves from the team and its humiliating defeats, Steph tried to cut off his finger with his band saw, Michael no longer wants to come back from England and George might just keep on running in the next marathon and not bother stopping.

It dawned on us that our seven member team average age is north of 50 - we figure that the “A” in 7A stands for – “aging”.
