Chairman's Comments

Mens 1st and 8th Leagues and Ladies 4th league are top of the tables at this stage.  Also 7th lge are 2nd by a couple of points. Keep going guys and gals.

The local 4th lge derby last week proved yet again that the B teams are better than the A teams.!!!

1st LEAGUE vs Bryanston

After an initial scare (nothing to do with squash) when Kelvins Gautrain lost power, the rest was a formality

Kelvin won 3-0
Gareth won 3-1
Frankie won 3-2
Mwansa won 3-0

Overall result: Won 16 - 3

2nd LEAGUE vs CCJ

Country Club has a team of youngster, except for John van Heeswijk. Was like playing one of the Varsities, just at a better venue.

Gary played first against Grant. Grant was too quick and won comfortably.

Willem played next against Andrew. First match of the season for Willem and although he fought back hard, even winning a game, was no match for Andrew.

Peter played next (after forgetting his kit at home and having to go fetch it – COTY nomination), always looked like he was winning, but the youngster was just too quick.

Last up, Stan. But he brought a sore back and had to contend with the wily John. Was 2-0 down before he managed to get a game. Managed to get to 2 all and was well up in the 5th but John came back and won it.

No match for 2 weeks. Maybe we should practice.

Stan: 2-3
Peter: 0-3
Gary: 0-3
Willem: 1-3

Overall result: Lost 4-13

4th B (DEFINITELY NOW IN NAME ONLY) vs Chamber A (in name only ha ha ha)

This was the perfect local derby. Every match went to 5 and it finished level at 2-2 with 8 points separating the 2 teams. Originally we were going to play 6 against 6 and draw the 4 matches to count out of the hat. Unfortunately 2 of the A team (in name only) feigned injury and business commitments respectively so a normal 4 vs 4 ensued with Ron and Fergus playing a friendly (only Ron wasn’t very friendly)

Silver Fox against Chris was always going to be a 5-setter (we have never, never, never, played anything but a 5-setter against each other in the last 20 years). I made the crucial mistake of picking up a triple bounce at the end of the 4th – it’s not my fault that the marker was blind!!!). This made Chris see red and he powered to victory in the 5th.

Simultaneously young Kyle played Ryan and the poor little rubber ball was sent fizzing round the court at great velocity with Kyle matching Ryan’s power (no mean feat, that) and playing his best match of the season. All the games were extremely close except for 2 that Kyle won 15-11 and they proved to be crucial in the count-out. Youth triumphed and Kyle won 15-12 in the 5th.

Next was Rich against Vevek. Rich raced into a 2-0 lead losing only 14 points in the process. This was going to be an easy 3-0 but Vevek is made of steel this season and wasn’t going to lose his unbeaten record – he won the next two losing only 15 points. So into the 5th and Richard pulls ahead to lead 14-11 but again Vevek pulls back, levels and wins the 5th 16-14.

That left Nick to play Flippie to decide the night. At 2-1 up and running well the wheels fell off and Flippie drew level with a blistering 15-6. Similar to Richard, Flip raced to a 14-11 lead and the same as Richard lost 17-15 in the 5th.

It took 20 minutes, and about 8 re-counts before the B team (in name only) was declared the winner by 8 points.

Ron and Fergus played a friendly in front of Ron’s new beau and Fergus started off by hitting 15 straight winners in the 1st game. After threatening to walk off court if he did that again, Ron gradually pulled himself towards himself and won 3-1

We re-treated to Doppios and although I offered several times to re-count the scores, there were no takers (or pullers Dave)

Overall result: Won  12- 10

6th A vs Bryanston

Up against the league leaders – they have one player present no 3, we have two players BigG and GG. I point to BigG and he shakes his head like those baseball pitchers when given a signal they do not agree with so me as the catcher would change the signal and go on at number 3. Up against Andre – first game was over before we started 6-15 and I see why BigG shook his head, managed to get back in the second 15-12, the third was a bit of a battle with both of us having game points luckily it ended in my favour 20-18, up in the 4th 14-11 and ready to close it down when Andre steps it up to win 17-15 so 5th and final is a real battle down 14-13 and I managed with the help of my teammates to sneak in with a 16-14  Result 3-2 to the good guys

On next is BigG (fresh from a victory last week) against Che – first game 15-5 (George pinches himself and says what happened) changes his game and goes on to lose the next two 3-15 and 5-15. Gbow goes down to have a chat and this time he does the pinching for BigG and he goes on to win it 15-11 – two each and a good game on the cards. After a few points BigG retires hurt (apparent groin pull – must have been the pinching). BigG goes for a shower and that the last we see of him, apparently he went to find a female physio to help with the groin strain before the swelling went down.  Result 2-3 to the bad guys

On at no 4 BoerG – unfortunately the backhand was not working tonight nor was anything else. Down 11-15 5-15 12 -15  Result 0-3 to the bad guys

Gbow has had a bit of a bad run so tonight was his night until they told him he was up against the youngster (16) James. GBow tried but this youngster did not understand the meaning of “that’s a winner” and hunted everything down that Gbow through at him. Unfortunately the bad run continues (John we still need help at 1) 8-15, 14-16, 11-15  Result 0-3 to the bad guys

Final 5-14  Prego rolls in the bar afterwards were pretty good while Barcelona were not so good.

Overall result: Lost 5 - 14

6th B vs Old Eds

Louis arrived at the courts bright and early on request from his opponent who had to be finished by 7. However, said opponent was nowhere to be found – apparently having issues with traffic. There was an upside in that one of the front courts was secured – allowing the first leaguers on the court next door to pick up some tips from our mellifluous play. When Louis’ opponent, Olivier, did finally arrive, it was all in a whirl of nerves and brash French attitude. This initially put Louis off his game, and he lost the first. Composure returned thereafter though and Louis brushed aside the odd imploring outburst from his continental challenger to sweep the next three. Won 3-1.

Then Nigel on against youngster Yakov. I was never really put under pressure and, although Yakov had some useful shots, he didn’t really come close at any stage. Won 3-0.

Back from injury and sporting a knee-guard in pastel blue, Bruce then took on Volker. The first game was nightmare with Bruce only managing to scrape 5 points. There were visions of the prodigal returnee imploding in spectacular fashion. Bruce saved these visions from being realised though as he edged back in with characteristic killer boasts and maximum court coverage. He steadily gained more confidence as the match was played out and was pretty effective. Welcome back Bruce. Won 3-1.

With the evening won, Danie took on old man Dennis. Now that Jack Frost is nipping at our heels, the green dot ball can be the harshest variable on the court. And so it was with Dennis’ game. Not a runner, but a shot player. Danie couldn’t get the ball warm enough to play his natural game and was repeatedly frustrated by uber-tight drops from Dennis. After this, I suspect it will be a relief to move over to the yellow dot. Lost 1-3.

Game time was followed by another trip to the Dop for some Jack Black draught and grub. Next game is in two week’s time in the form of our derby against the other Chambers team.

Overall result: Won 13 - 5

7th League vs. Modderfontein

Playing at number 4, Ben took on Mark for our first challenge.
The first game looked like it would be easy but Mark appeared
to have the edge. The second game came down to close finish
with long rallies but Mark took it 17 - 15.
The last game was a doozy.
Ben had some excellent shots and runs but Mark proved to be
the better player. 0:3

Next up Herkie vs. Mike. Mike proved to be a sneaky player.
Mike took the first but Herkie came back for the second,
third, fourth with great bounds of skill that we come to expect. 3:1

Lyal came in strong & running his heart out against Gregory,
Pulled out a 5 setter to take it 3:2.
More running than necessary but victorious.

Brennan was up against powerhouse Herman who hammered
the ball during warm up. Challenging his power hits the during warm up I
took the strategic route and slowed the game down to a crawl to take it 3:0.

Victory for the 6c league team.  3:1
Sorry 7th league.

Overall result: Won 12 - 6

9th League vs. Edenvale

Having travelled all the way to Edenvale last week only to find that they were playing at home, this week Edenvale pulled out – luckily they phoned in advance.

Overall result: Lost 11 - 7

10th OMT (Old Mans Team) vs Southern Suburbs

First on was Brian at #1 against Alex. Lost the 1st game closely at 13-15. Attacked the 2nd game with vigour & lost even more closely at 16-18! Then ran out of steam to only get 10 pnts in the 3rd0/3

Next on was John at #3 against Tyrone. Never really got going despite the usual demonstrative gesticulations. The much younger opponent had the upper hand and was really nimble. Nevertheless, John did well to get 10 pnts in the 1st two games but only 4 in the 3rd0/3

Enter (the young) Francois Maré at #4 against Manny. Been 17 years since Francois’ last league match for Standard Bank…….. Nevertheless, Francois took 2 games to get into it, getting 10 and 9 pnts respectively. Not bad. Having found his rhythm, Francois then delivered a beautiful display of well delayed shots klapping his opponent 15-7. Even though he had run out of steam in the 4th game, being seriously unfit, Francois did well to get 13 pnts in the 4th1/3

Finally, Keith was on at #2 against Erik. Lost the 1st game very closely at 14-16. Unfortunately, his opponent then found his rhythm, Keith managing to get 10 pnts in the 2nd but only 7 in the 3rd0/3

Thanks to Francois a whitewash was narrowly avoided

Overall result: Lost 1 - 16

10th YMT (Young Mans Team) vs Jeppe

Richard won 3-0 and Warwick won 3-1.
Juan philip lost 3-2 and Matium won 3-0

Overall result: Won 14 - 4

Ladies 4th B vs Randburg

A good night in terms of points but we all felt we could have played another match.

Caroline won 3-0
Pat won 3-0
Alma won 3-0
Megan won 3-0

Overall result: Won 16 - 0

2nd LEAGUE vs UJ

We missed Stan, all had to move up and the result wasn’t good.

Peter up first against one of the twins. Peter played good squash and was about to win when she pulled a hammie (or something) and retired hurt.

Next up was Ryan against Bradley. Ryan had a 5 or 6 point lead in each game but Bradley seemed to sneak in at the end. Games were close.

Next, Jared against Heston. Good quick squash. Also close games but Heston’s experience allowed him to just win each.

Last up Gary against Marco. Gary won the first but Marco seemed to get better with time and was too quick for Gary.

We try again next week against John van Heeswijk’s CCJ team.

Peter: 3-1
Jared: 0-3
Gary: 1-3
Ryan: 0-3

Overall result: Lost 4-13

4th A vs CCJ

Good team performance against an “extremely pathetic” Country club team with all players winning comfortable to take maximum points. (apparently the CCJ players will read this report – therefore no mercy in the description)

FINAL RESULT

Vevek won 3-0
Dave won 3-1
Chris won 3-1
Flip won 3-1

Overall result: Won 16 – 3

4th B (in name only) vs Dainfern

So after all these years I (Ron) get elevated to the esteemed rank of captain for the night by decree of our captain (who stood down for the night because it was cold and too far to go to Dainfern).. So, bravely taking up the mantel and taking full advantage of the authority invested in me, I played myself first for once having nicked Fergus's esteemed and highly protected number 4 position. I wish to strongly deny the abhorrent rumours that I did this just because their number 4 was a young, nubile, gorgeous looking fragile thing (and yes, female), who then decided that this old toppie needed a lesson or two and firmly klapped me 3-2.. Clearly I'm no good at this captaincy  thing..
Anyway, I had another opportunity to assert my authority on my team when I intervened in a nasty incident between Fergus and Nick who both wanted to go on next.. Fergus took the tack of whining that he was there before Nick and Nick, as razor sharp as always, pointed out that Fergus's opponent wasn't there earlier so he should go on next.. I insisted that we resolve this by the spinning of a racquet best of 5, so they spun it once and Nick went on next.. My pride severely bruised by such undermining of my authority I went off to sulk and shower leaving Nick moaning that he also didn't want to have to play a female.. On my return from my sulk (and shower) I noted that a very red faced and heavily sweating Nick had somehow managed to win the first game being heavily down and game points against him.. he wasn't gonna lose against a chick that was for sure.. Although the next two games were tight Nick managed to hold her off and a 3-0 win was in the bag.
Having now recovered from a severe bout of whining, Fergus now went on but it was clear it had taken it out of him, whining being such a debilitating passtime. However, there was still a spark of life in the ole boy and he bravely streaked into a 1-0 lead only to be pegged back in the next game and a sad display in the next two games saw him run out a 3-1 loss.. it was said later that he was whining his way to the changing rooms later but I find this hard to believe as he surely would have learned his lesson after such a defeat...
So now it was the turn of our esteemed number one (The King) and having managed to stop him talking to anyone and everyone around him, I pointed him to the court, put his racquet in his hand and told him to do his talking on the court and for once someone listened to me. This match was a bit of a blur to me and interspersed with intermittent whines from the change rooms and Nick prancing about in front of the court telling anyone who would listen about how he thrashed his female opponent.. It was all over pretty quickly I (think) and another handsome 3-0 victory was ours and an overall 11-6 match result..
Come back John all is forgiven...

Overall result: Won  11- 6

6th A vs Suburbs

  1. On first at 2 GG – I received the youngster (Kyle) for arriving first. He won the first, I managed to take the second – unfortunately after that youth beat experience and I lost the next two – 1-3
  2. On at no 4 BoerG – flying at 13-9 then deciding why should I win the 1st game so managed to lose the first 14 -16, lost the second 13-15. Came back in the 3 to win it but lost the 4th – so down 1-3
  3. BigG on at 3 – against Brynn. Same as BoerG flies into the lead by taking the first 2 games then decides why win in 3 and after all I am fitter than my opponent so lose this one 5-15 and the next 11-15. Thank goodness that John arrived and threatened George that if he lost he would be moved to the ladies 4th league side, he obviously thought this was good so lost the first few points and then the superior fitness kicked in and he took the last game 15-13 – a win !!! 3-2
BigG warming up for his last game

  1. GBow on at 1 to save the day against Kurt – quick 15-11 for first game and we were on our way, not so fast says Kurt and takes the next 3 games (John we need some help at No 1)

Overall result: Lost 6 - 14

6th B vs Bryanston

In our match against the first Bryanston side (the log leaders), we narrowly avoided a 16 pointer. Now, against the second side (who had beaten their first side the previous week), it was marginally better. It was an evening of extremes with no ambivalent performances – either thrashing or being thrashed and, with a second court available, all games were finished by 8:15...

Louis on first in a continuation of the form that he’s been gaining. He played Craig – a slow mover, but tricky player. In the first two games Louis was several points behind, but showed poise to limit the mistakes and come back. Minor blip in the third game, but he was clinical in the fourth to seal the win. 3-1 up.

Next up, Mark against  co-engineer Dougan. It was looking woeful in the first as Mark was 13-2 down. The tides turned as Mark fought his way back unbelievably to 13 all. It would have been the come-back to top all come-backs, but a couple of nicks for Dougan sunk Mark as he finally lost 16-14. Seems the effort in the first game cost Mark as he wasn’t able to mount a serious challenge for the rest of the match. Lost 0-3.

Then, on parallel courts with matches that were mirror images of each other it was Nigel vs Joseph and Danie vs Ian. Here the contrasts were plain with Nigel being the annihilee and Danie the annihilator. No way I could keep up with Joseph – I’m guessing that he tests the new high energy products for Red Bull prior to his league games. At the same time as I was feeling the wrath of Joseph’s racquet, Danie was teaching Ian a lesson on the other court. If Louis had been clinical, then Danie was surgical. Ian had no reply , with Danie picking the right shots at the right time and executing brilliantly. This all culminated in a 0-3 loss for Nigel and 3-0 win for Danie.

Early night for once and there was ample time for beer and burgers at the Baron.

Overall result: Lost 6 - 9

7th League vs. Northcliff

The faces of the guys from Northcliff are becoming so familiar to us at Chamber; playing in most of our tournaments, it was almost like playing a home derby at an away venue. The only difference was that when we arrived they were all sitting there, staring us down, all kitted out and a little sweaty from the pre-match warm-up. I felt a touch intimidated. But we all know that the proof of the pudding is in the eating!

#3.  Crappie Cappie up against Deon, the father to the terrible twosome (Jared and Kyle), that have been a vitamin youth injection to the Chamber Club. I needed a win in order to hang onto some sort of self-respect and worth and fortunately Deon was in an obliging mood. The court was hot and the green dot ball was moving and I had to play a very contained game to keep the ball from bouncing off the back wall. Not in my nature to play a restrained game but it might be a sign of maturity that I managed this for once! Still struggling with my inability to relax before a league game – have no problem relaxing and enjoying a game socially but this league thing is getting the better of me…  (3-0)

#2. Herculean Herkie has recovered from injury and put almost the entire team to the sword at team practice and was looking to do the same to the opposition. Started off well against Paul, winning the first and was busy letting things slip in the second, one too many tricky shots and not watching the opponent play his shots sees Paul take the lead but then Paul is just too loose and Herkie comes back to win it. A stern talking to at the break and Herkie recomposes himself and takes the third with ease. Ask for a “LET PLEASE” Herkie, not a “STROKE” – even if the guy is directly in front of the ball/wall/racquet etc. (3-0)

#4. Steph, still trying to cement his fourth spot in the team line-up, starts off like he has something to prove. He takes the first with ease, perfectly measured drops and good lengths given the hot court conditions. Then he did his wobbly bit, like Mike Hunt was telling me recently that he was midway through a shot and started thinking of his vegetable garden…maybe Steph was wondering how his new batch of home-brewed beer was going to turn out? Andries was all over Steph, especially in the front of the court, taking the second. Whispers in Steph’s ear about playing line and length seem to stabilize and win him the third game and then Steph must have been wondering what medals he would win for his home-brew and how he could command the overseas market and the next thing he knew was he was eating pasta somewhere in Northcliff…what happened??? Steph should have won this one in the fourth which he let slip 14-16. (2-3)

#1. Paul now has to prove that he can also play when there is no pressure. Back at his spot at one where you never know who or what you are going to come up against – he meets Richard who is also an unconventional player who has the meanest forehand drive. Paul creates his own pressure by taking the first 17-15 and then the second 16-14. Paul loses the third but if he had asked for any number of LETS he would have cruised home. Richard had the nasty habit of popping it just past mid-court and then not clearing sufficiently enough and limiting Paul’s playing options. Paul was calm and composed and took the game away from Richard in the fourth rounding off a good night out. (3-1)

We just managed to squeeze in at the last minute to Lucio’s and had a very pleasant chow-down!

Crappie Cappie Quote: - “When you play the guys at the bottom of the log – best you beat the guys at the bottom of the log!”

Overall result: Won 14 - 4

8th League vs. Old Eds

A good win 14-7 against Old Eds keeping us at the top of the table with 56 points at an average of 14 points a match.

At 1 Nick who had another 5 setter, the third one in a row but like the others lost 2-3.

At 2 Pete Fillmore who won comfortably 3-1.

At 3 Pete Le Roux who had a tough match but came through at 3-2.

At 4 George who cruised this one 3-1.

Full turn out from both sides for supper at Doppio’s.

Overall result: Won 14 - 7

9th LEAGUE “SPARTANS” vs Bryanston (or was it Edenvale!!!!!!!!!)

Now we have to get this right. One win and two losses. We can, we are the Boere Spartans. And drawing from the reserves the Captain finds a Boertjie Le Roux with 10 years of British soil. What more do we want. Directions maybe?? Ok, ok the Captain had it wrong,  read the schedule as Edenvale instead of home game against Bryanston. Small little error in the greater scheme of things. But now I sit with petrol claims from my loyal (see attached) siblings.

So here goes,
Game one Number 3.
Leslie was up against Sven.  Hot baby (that is now Leslie) hot I tell you. Like a racing horse in the stalls. Both have a good game and Sven takes the first, but still an open match. Second game  and Sven is all over the running Porra. 13 – 6 down for Chambers. Nou is hy kwaad en begeesterd. Hy is ten minste ons Chief motivator, en hy moet sy geld sit waar sy mond is (en die mond is groot, jong.)The third game and Leslie is fighting back, nice calculated tight shots. Game is on and after a big sweat Chambers take the game 16 – 14. Life in that Boere Spartans team still. But energy is now spent, and Leslie has no answer to the manipulating opponent. The game is too slow for him and goes down.
Chambers = 1
Bryanston = 3

Game two Number 1.
Kobus is up against Bridgitte. A sleek well trimmed fighting machine. But Kobus is committed and from the first game it is tuff. 16–18 loss to Chambers and Kobus knows that the smoking is going to work against him (again). So he takes the second by running vir alles. One each. That nicotine again and he easily goes down in the third. After doing that ‘’gooi van die lang hare’’ thing he has renewed Samson strengths and takes the fourth. Kobus is also victorious in the last game and a well deserved victory to our beloved number one.
Chambers = 3
Bryanston  = 2

Game three Number 2.
Chris is up against his last year rival Haley from New Zeeland. She beat him fair and squire in 2012 so Mr van Zyl had different plans this year. Vat hom fluffy. Fighting and hanging on the good Captain goes down in the first. But the victory plan is still there, and Chris is fighting back in the second. Kraak and there goes the 60 year old ankle. A bitter pill to swallow and he gallantly throws is the towel to the lady. Sorry team.
Chambers = 0
Modderfontein = 3

Game four Number = 4
Andy (the import from Boksburg via London) is now our silver bullet. We need a three love win.  But all those years in a English pub is heavy on him in the first game. Matthew the Kid is playing well couched squash and takes the first game.  But the Motivator did his job well and Andy is indebted to the team. He is THE Chuck Norris you know. Second is Chuck’s and so the third. But by now the Captain is looking for the medics. Andy is playing his lungs out, literary and figurely. But allas he takes the third and Chambers wins the game.
Chambers = 3
Braynston = 1

A great evening . 2-2 in matches…….but a loss in games.
Thanks guys.

Match report for 4th league between Chamber and Parkview

Pat played first at number 2 and did well to get a game - but overall lost 2-3

4th A vs Randburg

Ryan went on first against Phil, fought hard with all very close games, however could not convert the big points, lost 3-1, Andrew played well, very close games but also could not finish the games when on top, lost 3-1. Vevek went on next, played well, lost concentration in the middle but ended up winning the 5th easily. It was then left to Flip to win 3-0 for Chamber to win the tie, unfortunately played Jay who was in good form, never in the game and lost 3-0.

FINAL RESULT

Ryan lost 1-3
Vevek won 3-2
Flip lost 0-3
Andrew lost 1-3

Chamber lost by 3 matches to one, could have gone the other way if we could finish games a litter better.

Overall result: Lost 5 – 14

6th A vs Modderfontein

4 - On at number 4 hitandrunG (Jacques) – won first 15-12 and doing well to win second and then threw it away and lost 15-17, won the next then lost the 4th – so 2 each and final game which was just too much going down 14-16 – lost 2-3

3 – BigG our banker at number 3 – this was the battle of the bulge against Darryl – 1st to Darryl with some silly mistakes by bigG then he came back in the second and we thought the banker was going to kick in – but he folded instead and went down in the next two – 1-3 down

2 – GG on against Vaughn at no 2. Won the first fairly well while the second was a bit of a humdinger, a few let calls and a stroke (which Vaughn did not appreciate) and I won 17-15. Could not get a length in the 3rd and lost it 9-15. The 4th game was another humdinger Vaughn going a few points up and then me catching up, eventually 14 each and I managed to take the next point so 15-14 during the next rally I played a boast and hit him on the follow through – he never got the boast and asked for a let (which he never got) so a win at 16-14. A grumpy Vaughn did not speak to me for the next 30 min. 3-1 win.

1 – Gbow on at 1 against experienced Arnie. All we needed was this game to win the match. Unfortunately not one of Gavin’s better outings and Arnie not giving him a look. Down 0-3

Overall result: Lost 6 - 13

6th B vs Northcliff

After a rough opening salvo of matches, this was our first ‘easy’ fixture.

Louis (a.k.a Ginge #1) was in complete control of his game and looks increasingly dangerous as the season progresses. He was up against Lardus, by no means a shabby opponent, but it was ruthless out there with Louis floating around the court and driving, dropping and boasting his way to a very commanding win. Perhaps it was the presence of his better half in the gallery which made his game sparkle – in which case she’s hired on Tuesday evenings from now on. Won 3-0

Then Mark (a.k.a Ginge #2) against Kobus with neither player giving an inch of T space to the other. Despite the wrestling in the middle, there were some good points during the match – the majority of them going to Mark. Despite some slight wobbles in letting his opposite number reign in his lead in a couple of the games, Mark was never really in danger of losing this one. Won 3-0.

Next Nigel (a.k.a Ginge #3) playing Pieter. I’ve played a couple of runners in the past few weeks and this could not have been more different. Pieter was still pretty much immobilised by an old achillies injury and wasn’t moving to the front of the court for anything. Rallies weren’t long lived and anything short gave me a point. Easy-peasy. Won 3-0.

Finally Danie (a.k.a Ginge wannabe) against Kevin. The evening was already won for us, but that couldn’t be used as an excuse for Danie not to get his customary 5 setter in. Handy drops from Kevin versus the handy drives from Danie. A game of contrasting styles and providing the entertainment to round off the evening. Stamina proved Danie’s weak point and he got diminishing returns after being 2-1 up. Lost 2-3.

Thanks to the srill injured Bruce for supporting – and draining a couple of brews.

Overall result: Won 14 - 3
