7th A League vs. Winchester Hills

I've loved, I've laughed and cried.
I've had my fill; my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside,
I find it all so amusing.

To think I did all that;
And may I say - not in a shy way,
"No, oh no not me,
I did it my way".

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels;
And not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows I took the blows -
And did it my way!

#1 – Paul against Dylan and we witnessed the BEST game I have ever seen Paul play!!! The pairing was brilliant as they are both there for the long haul and boy oh boy was it long – everything was chased down and returned and fetched and gathered, never overly flashy, just determined. Paul lost the first and I have to admit that I was worried that Paul looked disconsolate. But then the fight for supremacy in the second and then it was dogged determination that saw Paul through a closely contested third and although Dylan didn’t show it, I think he was just physically beaten in the fourth and Paul finished in style. What a great way to end his league season and show his class. Well done Paul! (3-1)

#4 - George always keen to get things moving along appropriates the court adjacent and takes on Running Rampant Ray and my understanding is that they chased each other around the court and then George let the match get away from him in the fifth. It sounded like a good fight and at least George gave a good account of himself for the evening after having gotten seriously lost trying to get there. To his credit George has earned himself the title of MVP (2012) as a result of the best overall average in the team. Thanks for your contribution George! (2-3)

#3 – Karel up against Cameron whom me-thinks could have been a ringer but not quite sure. Karel manages to find his own pace in a game where Cameron is pushing the tempo at every turn – unfortunately for Cameron along with the tempo comes the sound of repetitive TIN ringing in our ears as he seemed hell-bent on trying to leave an indelible mark in it. He gave away many points and Karel, despite his having had an overindulgent weeks break and adding a kilo or two, was moving rather well and picking up the shots with interest and played a very good game. Without too much drama he ended his season well with a much need
victory and the runner-up (non-existent) MVP title. Great improvement in the second half of the season boet! (3-1)

#2 – Gary against Brendon and this was not my night despite the fact that all I needed to do was win one game to seal the deal, I think I stormed out in front in all my games and even got to 14-12 in the third but just couldn’t do the business. I am so bitterly disappointed in myself, I am still trying to forgive myself and remind myself that this is supposed to be a game played for the enjoyment of “the game”. I might have done it “my way” but it certainly wasn’t the “best way”! I have heard of captains going down with the ship but I think I might be one of the elite few who are responsible for taking the ship down! Over and out! (0-3)

8 Games each and a points count again – and as fate (and the gods) would have it, we lose by 4 points. Crappie cappie not-so-happy.

I am convinced we are destined for relegation but the team is holding out for the miracle to happen and grace being granted…

Thanks for a great year team and for your kind support!

Our names might not have been inscribed in the history books but they will go down as “my team” in my first year as captain. Michael - Steph - George - Karel - Paul may you have a great Summer League!

Ear-Ear
   Gary

Overall result: Lost 8 - 10
