We hosted Edenvale’s B side. After losing 1-3 in the first round, we were hoping to turn the tables this time.
First on was Chris at number 4. After a slow start, Chris came back well to take the 2nd and 3rdto go 2-1 up. Unfortunately he ran out of options and steam, and surrendered in the fifth. However he put up a good fight and secured 2 points.
Next on was Peter LR at number 3 with a score to settle with the seasoned campaigner Mike Lawrenson, who claimed: “you have never beaten me”. Having lost 1-3 to Mike in the first round, this was always going to be a tough game. Peter got off to a great start and was soon 2 games up. Mike put up some resistance in the 3rd but Peter had his number and took the 4th quite easily for a satisfying 3-1 revenge win.
Peter F was on next at number 2 against Greg, who has generally had been very effective for Edenvale. Peter battled from the get go and never really got into his stride. He soon found himself 2 down. He started to get his game together in the third, but it was a case of too little too late and Greg closed out for a 3-0 win.
Graham on at number one against Mark, and had to win 3-0 to give us the match. The first game saw a remarkable comeback from Graham, after being down about 7-13, he managed a 17-15 win. Mark pulled back the 2nd for 1-1. We needed to win the next two games to secure the draw and a points count out. Graham obliged by taking the next two games for a 3-1 win.
So for the second week running we had to resort to a points count out to determine the winner. Unfortunately we were on the losing end this time.
