Season started with a home game against Wendywood. Match kicked off late, with Jeff and Sean Dickson playing first. Sean is 20, SA under something champ, hits the ball fantastically, but is a cricket wiz and only dabbles in squash now. Jeff lost the first marginally but then the old man experience kicked in and he won the next 2, and was up in the 4th. We thought he had this sewn up, Sean looked tired but suddenly (run forever) Jeff ran out of legs. He lost the 4th, and was not really in the 5th. A narrow loss, but his 2 games saved the night.
Ryan went on next against Sean’s father, Peter Dickson, a past champ. I remembered the Peter Dickson of old (not because he was the best racquet restringer around back then) and thought this would be another clash of experience vs awesome hitting; but Peter was no match for our current boom boom and Ryan won comfortably in 3.
Phil played next against Dion; I remembered him being a difficult player, hard hitting lefty. Games were close with Phil just losing the first, but then Phil managed to win the next 3. (Maybe Jeff foot faulted Dion out of the match.)
Gary went on last against Allan Bailey, match already won. Gary got a quick hiding (5th here I come) and off to Cats Pajamas we went.
